Dear Angeli:
Condolence to you and your family for the passing away of your father, Tony "Inot" Salgado.
Please also extend my heart felt condolence to especially to your aunt, "Ating" Carmeling, and your brother Robie. (Would you please pass on this email to them?)
Your father was like an older brother to me while I was growing up. I have very distinct and warm memories of experiences with him. He may have been eighteen, a freshman in college, and I was maybe an 8 year old impressionable boy. Your grandmother (who I also was very close to) and my mother Fe agreed to have Inot, the oldest son, board with us for college.
We were a large brood of 8 or 9 kids then (maybe Marisue and Ray or Bambino were not born yet), so there was not much room. Inot, my older brother Manny ("Boy" then) and I slept in the same room, literally shoulder to shoulder in a small bed and an army folding cot.
Him being some sort of "intellectual", I sort of bonded with him, peppering him with a lot of questions about life in general, who Elvis Presley was, what's chess, why are you studying engineering, show me again your taking off of your glass eye, and things like that.
I think he took a liking to me, as he would confide growing-up kind of things to me, and patiently teaching how and guiding to a meaningful outlook towards life.
I was very depressed when he had to go back to Baguio.
Again, my family and I extend our dep condolence to you. May he rest in peace.
Sincerely,
"Tito" Tomo and "Tita" Cristina
